13

tongue pictures!
1.
2.
3.

4.
5.
6.
7. and it was taking way to long to find those pictures, and load them, so six is all you get!
8. so I thought it was funny when I took Maggie to get her speech assesed a while ago, and the girl mentioned that she should work on keeping her tongue inside her mouth, and that would help. she has always stuck her tongue out.
9. but it isn't always out of her mouth. just in case that is what you are thinking. just sometimes. but has been that way since she was tiny.
10. It is snowing here again right now. but it is supposed to be +6 later today. the warm weather/snow/freezing again at night is making the roads very nasty. good thing I don't have to go anywhere far today.
11. so- I got one thing I was knitting done- we will see if it is up to the specifications of my photographing friend. I got my girls Easter dresses cut out- Maggie's is sewn up, but I need to do a rolled hem on the edges, and do some shirring- which I have never done before. could be interesting. then I have to serge some of the seams on Sadie's and get it to the same stage as Maggies, so I can roll hems and shir them together. I got the binding sewn on the zigzag quilt- but it is about a foot short- need to add a bit more on, then hand sew it on.
12. and I even vacuumed.
13. Cory asked me what I got done yesterday and I started with all the sewing and knitting things I did, then added in a bit of housework, and he said he was glad to hear I did a bit of somthing that I didn't want to do.
funny guy.

a night with Ed.

something kind of neat happened up here in our neck of the woods.
one of the leaders for the scout program at church wrote to the premier and invited him to come and talk to to the group.
and he said yes.
so last night he came.
boy, you should have heard the talk at our house before hand.
you would have thought he was the president of the world.
the boys were sure he would have a few body guards with big guns, and a limo, or at least a big black SUV,
and I even heard mention of snipers hiding out on top of the Mac's store across the street.
hilarious.
he did have one security guy with him.
Jed got his autograph on a paper, (the premier, and the security dude.)
and Jack had the premier sign a wrist band he has been wearing since he went to Galaxy land before Christmas. now there is no hope of him ever getting that thing off. Cory said he was smiling, until the second the picture was taken.
Ben commented that there was lots of brownies and squares, so it was great.
teenagers. ha.

too much

I have too many things to do.
a quilt- pictured above, that is now quilted.
I followed the zig zagged stripes with my meandering foot- (or whatever the real name for it is) when I should have used a walking foot, so my lines would be straighter.
but I guess it doesn't bother Jack.
he has claimed the quilt as his own.
now I just need to get some binding on it.
and a photographer friend of mine has put in a few requests for some knitted items.
that I don't know how to do, and I can't find patterns for, so I need to make them up.
that is so not my thing.
I am a copier.
a pattern reader.
not a pattern maker.
yikes.
I did get some pictures printed out for my 365 project.
and I even put them in their slots.
now I just need to do the little blurb.
really, just lots of little things to do.
nothing major.
nothing I can't put off, a bit.
while I sit and complain about all the things I have to do.
and get nothing done!

see what I mean?

3 different days
same dress.

I even let her wear it to the school on Friday when we went to help with hot lunch. I tried to talk her out of it.
but she would have none of that.
what a crazy girl.

maggie- thirteen things about her

1. she still sticks her tongue out alot.
maybe next week I will post 13 pictures of that!
she has done that since she was a tiny little baby.
2. most nights she ends up in Sadie's bed, or on the floor by our bed.
3. still not quite getting the poop on the potty thing.
I am sure you wanted to know that!
(I was talking to a lady about it and she said she paid her granddaughter each time she went. hmm. I wonder if that would work.)
4. she loves polly pockets
5. and barbies
6. and dolls. basically any girl stuff.
7. her outfit of choice lately is a princess dress I made for a niece for halloween about 3 years ago. - or any dress or skirt.
8. she is my best eater- by far. she eats most everything.
9. she draws really well.
10. she is the one that all the kids get along with the best. they all fight with each other, but they are all sweet to Maggie.
11. she is really good on the computer. for a 3 year old!
just makes me laugh to think that I never even touched a computer until maybe junior high. times are changing!
12. I probably let her watch way too much tv. I should probably work on more crafts and games with her.
13. I love her so much!

tagged

well I have been tagged.
tagged to tell you 6 (un)interesting things about me.

1. I usually fall asleep with socks on- because my feet are so cold.
but if I wake up in the night, they are usually too hot, so I pull them off.

2. I love a clean house. but I hate cleaning my house.

3. I don't mind doing laundry. folding is okay. but I hate putting clothes away. ideally, my laundry room will have a spot for me to put everyones clothes, and they will come and get them and put their own stuff away. but I don't think that is going to happen. sadly.

4. I thought it would never happen, but I actually want to run/walk on my treadmill. and the days I don't, I kind of miss it.
today I went on it, and my ipod battery was dead. it was very different trying to run without it. I like the songs to keep me going. the beat, and me thinking, I can just make it to the end of the song. or maybe the verse.

5. Things I make are usually way cuter in my mind then they turn out in reality.

6. I am heading to Value Village and Goodwill tomorrow, and I can hardly wait!

now I tag:
Joanne,
Kayli,
Kami,
Kaylani,
Shelley
and anyone else who wants to come up with 6 (un)interesting things about themselves and share it with the blog world!

what's this?

so, our basement was basically unfinished when we moved in.
how a house can be lived in for 30+ years, and no one develop the basement for more living space is beyond me.
but I guess most people don't have 5 kids.
but still. a rec room or something? I don't get it.
so, anyways, we lasted about 2 years, then Cory got to work.
now, the basement has been mostly done for many months.
but the rooms were still lacking doors.
well- looky here- yep, Cory putting in a door. yay!
Three are in now.
three to go.
and if you need doors installed in your house-
don't ask Cory.
because he won't do it.
he says it is more of a pain than he thought it would be.
just so you know.

new stuff

I knit a hat!
well, I have done that a few times before-
but one that is not straight knitting.
see, this one had some purling thrown in.
fun. I thought I would try it out with some yarn that got given to me.
just regular acrylic yarn.
but I think it would be a great hat made with some fancy soft stuff. yesterday I almost forgot to take a picture. (for the 365 thing)
so before I went to bed I took a picture of the seeds left at the bottom of an empty popcorn bucket.
that is typical sunday night fare.

and I finally figured out something that will change my life.
okay- in a small way, but a great way-
I signed up to follow all the blogs that I read,
so when I sign into blogger, it will tell me which of those blogs has been updated, so I don't have to spend forever going to all the blogs only to find they are not updated.
most of you blog readers are probably in the know about this feature,
but for me, this is great news!
now I will waste way less time on the computer.
and I can spend more time cleaning.
oh, wait.
maybe this is not such a good thing!

thanks mom!

this is the quilt my mom was making,
and I requested that it be given to me.
I got it on Christmas, but it wasn't wrapped up.
so I am not sure if it was a Christmas gift, but either way, it is a wonderful gift!
I put it on my bed every night on top of my duvet- it helps me get all warm and cozy on these cooler nights.
It usually stays there until Maggie comes in- most nights, sometime in the middle, then I put it on the floor and make a little bed for her.
thanks mom.
I love it!

I'm on

the band wagon, that is.
the 365 bandwagon.
seems like such a big thing this year.
that might have to do with Becky Higgins.
anything that girl touches is gold.
really.
so, I am doing it,
but not the Becky Higgins way.
the Kristi- cheapo way.
and this is how I am doing it.
I went to Walmart, and bought a lovely album-
one of the least cheesy ones I could find.
the cover isn't bad- I don't know if I will do anything to it or leave it as is, but I won't worry about that just yet.
so, this was the first week of January. there were only three days in it , which worked out perfect for my four pictures a page book!
then , the eight pictures on the next two pages work out great for seven pictures and one description of what the pictures are.
I would like to accept all glory for this idea,
but alas,
I am very much a copier,
and I got the idea on 2peas.
so far so good. 2 weeks done, 49 left to go.

thirteen random things

1. I hate it when I am reading a good book, I put it down for a bit, and my husband picks it up and starts reading. because then I know I will not see it for a bit. last night I had to read a different book before bed because he had snatched up the new one. at 1:30 am I woke up and he was still reading it. I don't know how late he stayed up. but I hope he finished it, so I can have it back.
or I guess I could just read it while he is at work.

2. the book is the Hunger Games. not sure who it is by, and I don't want to get up to look, but it is a good one.

3. It was my 11 year old who made the sweet comment yesterday. he is getting some nice attitude. I find my self telling him 20 times a day- if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything.

I should get that printed big, and just point. it might be easier.

4. Kayli, that is funny that you saw that post. I don't even know how it got published- I was in the middle of writing it, and there it was. I was in an odd mood that day, and didn't feel like sharing it at the end. so, you got a lucky peek. maybe I will share it again someday.

5. I am liking the one photo a day thing, I am not liking htat I haven't printed out very many. I think today I will get caught up. I hope.

6. so I did do a bit of stuff yesterday. not a lot though.
but I think I really caught the quilting bug.
I just want to sit and quilt all day long!

7. I quilt my quilts on my machine.
it is kind of fun, but nerve wracking at first.
it takes a bit of practice.
quilting ben's was hard, because it has two layers of batting, so it was thick and heavy, and trying to move that around, and squish it through was a real work out. (a picture to remind you what I am talking about!)

8. so, while we are on the topic of Ben's quilt- I went in his room the other day, and he has this quilt on top of his mattress, like a sheet, and is sleeping on it. what? that will not do. he said he couldn't find a sheet. don't bother asking! I should go and fix that soon, while it is on my mind. find that poor boy a sheet, so he can stop using the quilt I slaved on to sleep on , not under. stinker.

9.Well, I sent all the kids to school with their lunches today, so I think Maggie and I will head out to the big city. does anyone know if old navy and children's place are having their big winter clear out sales yet? you will let me know if you know, right?

10. but first, I guess I have to get dressed.

11- so I didn't have to get up for seminary today- yay! it is the other teacher's turn- but I woke up just after five anyways. yuck. but I did get back to sleep, then my alarm didn't go off, so I got the kids up a bit late today. but I think they all made it to school on time, so all is well.

12. I remember at the beginning of December I wanted snow. well, I take that all back now. can the snow stop? please? I don't want to shovel it, or drive in it anymore. once again, they say it is supposed to warm up this weekend, but I do recall they said it would warm up just a few days ago, and it never happened, so I am not holding my breath.

13. well, Maggie just came to me with Sadie's DS and said that Sadie said she could play with it when Sadie is at school, but she has no clue how to do anything, and neither do I. could be fun.

couch potato

I was told this morning by one of my super sweet children that all I do all day is sit on the couch or on the computer.
I told him that is all I would do today and we shall see what comes of it.
I was thinking of utter chaos.

but then I thought about it.
the laundry is pretty caught up- so the kids all have clean clothes
I just went grocery shopping.- so we have lots of food
I just cleaned the bathrooms- so they aren't too nasty.
And he said he would cook perogies for supper.
so, one day of me not doing anything would not prove a thing to those sassy kids.

maybe I should do it just because.
hmm.
tempting.

did I say warmer?

I think I meant colder.
well- it was warmer.
now it is colder.
tomorrow is supposed to be warmer,
with rain.
after a bunch of snow tonight.
I think I will stay bundled up at home for a while.
oh, except for my excursion at 6 am to the church.
(only for 2 more mornings, then we are taking a week- or maybe 2 off for high school exams- thank goodness!)

warmer

I got a call a couple of days ago from my sister in law.
they were planning on going skating at a park in the city on Saturday,
and we were invited to come along if we wanted.
well, it was still pretty cold when she asked, and I was thinking-
not if it is this cold still!
but, lucky for us,
today was beautifully warm.
-well, for this time of year, and this location anyways!
Ben had a basketball tournament this weekend-
he plays on his junior high school team,
and Cory is an assistant coach- of sorts- for the team,
so they were busy with that,
so the other kids and I headed out.
we got skates tied up, and bundled up, then headed out on the ice.
I lasted about 5 minutes, then my feet were in such incredible pain,
I could hardly make it back to the shelter to get my boots back on.
dumb skates.
Maggie alternated between trying to skate and riding along in the sled.
Jed lasted a bit longer than I did-
probably about an hour, and Sadie and Jack practically had to be dragged off the ice after about 3 hours!
Cory's brother had rented some snowshoes, so Jed got to try those out for a little while.
it was a great day for skating.
I just have to remember to never take those skates again.
(I think we have 2 pairs about the same size, and I must have grabbed the wrong ones. )

this girl-

yesterday at lunch, she had her bowl and cup in front of her,
then she pulled another cup over and said-
look, a mickey mouse head.
I was impressed.
what a smart kid.

Thirteen terrific thoughts!

1. this is a little quilt I made out of some of the fat quarters I recieved from the vintage sheet swap I did last year. I gathered all of the yellow ones together. pretty fun. 2. this is my photo for today- I think!
that will go in my photo of the day album,
that I might get started soon-
hopefully.
I wanted to show how dark it still is when my kids are headed off for school. crazy stuff.

3. this was my picture I took yesterday.
the snow on my railing by my back door.
and it is even higher now.
crazy snow

4. and this picture was taken on Tuesday.
my three youngest were sledding in the backyard on the pile of snow that was made from shovelling the driveway.

5. and more shovelling needs to be done today.

6. why do we live in this crazy place?

7. that reminds me of a preview I saw for a movie- can't remember what it is called, but with Renee Zellwiger, and Harry Connick Jr. - she has to go to minnesota, or somewhere cold like that for work- the preview was so funny. I could relate to many of the things- about the cold and the snow. anyways- just had to share that random thought.

8. so, this morning I woke up at 5:25
on purpose.
so I could be at the church by 6.
to teach early moring seminary.
that was crazy early.
our ward has 2 teachers for the morning class- they team teach,
but one is pregnant,
and having a very hard time with the early mornings,
so we traded jobs.

9. I think I need a nap today.
or I will never be able to stay up to see the Office.
and I really want to see that!

10. started on my cocoon today.
should be interesting!

11. I will try to fit in knitting it, between my naps.
I think I might need a couple.
boy, am I ever feeling really tired.
how do those kids do it every day?

12. I think Ben is going to have a very hard time of it when he starts seminary next year. could be very interesting.
13. do your kids have a movie that they have to watch over and over and over and over?
right now Maggies is Jonah. and funny thing-
in seminary this morning a brother and sister passed a note back and forth, and when they would pass it, they said "a message from the Lord" then they commented that it was from a movie-
and I said-
oh yeah, I know the one.
Jonah.
funny.

busy

busy posting stuff on etsy-
some cute pixie hats.
I got the pattern from Kyla.
she is the sister to a girl in my ward. I babysit her kids after school, until she gets home from work, and one day her daughter had this super cute hat.
so I emailed Kyla to see where she got the pattern, and the rest is history.
(whatever did we do before internet, and blogs, and email?
how did we find patterns, or ideas?)

now I have had a request to knit a cocoon.
a what?
yes a cocoon.
a funny , longish hat that a fabulous photographer would put an adorable little baby in to take gorgeous photos.
we'll see what I can come up with!
in my head, it is wonderful, but what actually comes out of all my great ideas, is not always as I picture it.
here's hoping.
I hope to get going on it tomorrow,
but tomorrow something new is starting.
I will let you know about it then!

in stitches

here are a few stitched pictures I have hanging around.
I have a few more patterns that I want to do.
but not so much wall space!

an update-

because I know you are wondering!
our van spent the night at the oil change place,
they called the next day,
and Cory went and got the low down.
they said they drained a bucket full of oil out of the van.
that is what they said.
and they changed the battery,
and it is running.
Cory would like to believe them.
but is finding it hard.
since he called a mechanic friend of ours, and told him the whole story,
and the mechanic friend of ours said it sounded to him like the van had no oil in it.
and as a mechanic, he has delt with that exact problem from that exact place in the past.
hmm. interesting.

I see Cory doing his own oil changes in the future.
but I have a van, and it is running.
and I am still planning on learning how do drive a standard.
in case anything comes up in the future.

Saturday, January 03, 2009

so sweet

so- my sweet, sweet husband took the van out yesterday afternoon.
He picked up two boys from their friends house,
then proceeded to take my van for an oil change.
Wasn't that nice?
Then he went to fill it up with gas.
so sweet.
then on his way home, the van died.
what?
yes, it died.
it ends up, the oil change guys didn't put any oil back into the van.
nice.
so, my van might need a whole new engine- or is it a motor?
(I don't know much about it all.)
really nice.
and I am going to add to my list of things to do this year-
learn to drive a standard.
because now that our van is out of comission,
all we have is Cory's standard-
that I don't know how to drive.
yet.
sweet, no?

this year

This year I will scrapbook more.
I will get more things done, instead of just started.
I will make more quilts.
(not that I need more, I just want to)
I will sell more stuff on Etsy.
I will clean my house more
-or at least try to keep it cleaner.
I will eat less.
I will run on my treadmill more.
and maybe even outside- if it ever warms up.
and maybe run a race?- maybe.
I will learn some more about photography,
and I will learn how to do more on photoshop!
I will read more, and watch tv less-
(Cory just moved the tv out of our bedroom today,
so that should help a bit)
I am going to attempt to do a 365 album with a picture from every day this year. I think that would be so fun to look back on in the future.
how to keep that organized, I am not sure, but I will try it out.

and I will add a cute little elf girl picture to my post-
just because.

Happy New Year!
